Predators of Frogs
The Prey: A Frogs Diet
Frogs are stealthy hunters as they easily blend into their surroundings, have eyes that have both peripheral and frontal vision, can leap great distances, and have a powerful tongue with sticky ends. Their tongue can unroll in less than a second, retracting powerfully as to throw its prey into the back of its throat.
A frogs diet depends on the species of frog it is. Smaller species typically eat insects, snails, and worms. Larger species have been known to eat other frogs, small fish, and even mice. It is important, however, that a frogs eyes do not get bigger than its stomach. Frogs, like snakes, must swallow their food whole. |
